Launched by the EPO in 2006, the European Inventor Award gives inventors the recognition they deserve. It helps to protect ideas and encourage innovation, and it is an incentive for other potential inventors.

Inventors entered for the award must have been granted at least one valid European patent for their invention by the European Patent Office

The nomination period for the seventh edition of the European Inventor Award is open until 6 October 2011, for the following categories:
Industry
SMEs
Research
Lifetime Achievement
Non-European Countries

In 2012 the award ceremony will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark.
